OLD SOUP RECIPES: Tomato Soup (1884) | Hearty Golden Chowder (1975)
I decided to try TWO historic soup recipes to celebrate National Homemade Soup Day, which occurs every February 4th. The first is a tomato soup from Mrs. Lincoln's Boston Cook Book, published in 1884. It contains an ingredient that makes me wonder: will it enhance the soup, or make it taste, um, nasty? The second is called Hearty Golden Chowder, published in a leaflet put out by the Kraft Foods company for their TV Special that aired on January 8, 1975. BOTH soups surprised me in taste, BOTH are very simple soups, take little time to prepare, and are also vegetarian!
You'll find the recipes as they appeared in the publications below the video. Let me know if you make either of these!
